IF WE BUILD A DREAM...HOPE IS BORN!

PROJECT 1

THE EQUIPMENT CENTRE and Baratang Holdings _ communications department

EQUIPPING ONE MIND AT A TIME, DEVELOPING A NATION

This is the dream into reality. A year ago I had a burning desire to spread the gospel using technology and communications and as of January 2005, it has been a sweet reality. After training with YWAM and then with a South African company, I put a program together that has biblical content and computer education.

Each session is broken up into 1 hour/60 minutes: for 10 minutes the child is given a task for his/her age group.

·          To read a verse from the bible/ information from News or other contents, colour - in a biblical character or objects and other drawings, or is told a bible story/ news story or story related to the topic of the day.

The next 30 minutes is spent working in a specific program that enhances one of their 8 (EIGHT) developmental areas: Visual Skills, Language Skills- (speaking skills, listening skills), Literacy Skills, Reading Skills Writing Skills, Mathematical Skills, Emotional & Social Development; and Fine & Gross Motor Skills.

·         This is done through the use of specific computer programs for children and adults. All the programs are scanned and developed into specific learning modules.

 ·          The next 15 minutes the children spend off the computer doing something active (learning body parts, moving left, right, etc.)

In the last two years, I have trained over 10 teachers, however, one particular student grashed the concept that this program envisions – development of people. Lame, a youngster from Naledi was trained by me to teach other children in the villages as well as in the Naledi educational school. It was through this training, he began to believe in his own abilities to become anything he wanted to be and proudly we let him leave to pursue a career at a University. Lame is currently one of our success stories and a success to the program.

So the vision to Implement, Facilitate and Develop leaders within leaders is on the way. Although it is only in Phase one: [Working in the city with a combination of private and underprivileged schools and individuals]

·         By next year 2009: I desire to see it move into Phase 2: This is where you come in.

·         In order to move this learning centre into remote areas the project needs the following equipment:

·         Four(4) : Laptops: valued in Botswana between P8,000-P17,000 ~roughly US$1,600- $3400

·         A Motor Vehicle: 4Wheel Drive is essential to be able to get out to the villages : P210,000 _ P650,000 ~ US$ P30,000 – $95,000

·         Generator: incase there is no electricity (in most cases there are not electrical points, especially out in the villages.: valued between P5, 000 - P20,000 _ roughly US$ 1,000 - $4,000

The plan is to keep Phase 1 running in order to run the operating expenses of Phase 2 like wages, expenses, petrol (gas), paper, repairs and maintenance of computers.

PROJECT 2

·     A skills training facility that will offer accommodation to children (from abused families), for children with disabilities, for abandoned children and children who have been orphaned. A training facility that will develop the child to an adult with skills training in the areas of leadership, business, and various trades that will help the child grow and develop into and entrepreneur.

o  This project has not yet begun due to financial constraints. I am still in the process of researching how best to structure this program and find an ideal facility.

o  There is a need for a facility of this kind since all facilities that house children with disabilities seem to be dilapidating building structures. Facilities are make-shift warehouses

o  I want a facility that will enhance the child’s believe in him or herself and give them a sense of pride. I want children especially with disabilities to feel like they belong and that they too can have the best that life can offer.

PROJECT 3

·     A retirement home for the elderly, older adults that have no one to take care of them (in terms of physical help) , older adults that are abandoned or is terminally ill and have no family to take care of them.

This project has not yet begun due to financial constraints. I am still in the process of researching how best to structure this program and find an ideal facility.
