Musical Journey of the Wild Wild East

Imagine Arkansas. Mountains and ravines flowing with fresh clean water. Now, take away the trees and cover the land with a blanket of grass as far as the eye can see. Imagine nomads roaming the hillsides with herds of sheep, cattle, and horses. Next, put some yaks and camels in there, and now you’re in Mongolia!

Heart Sounds Intl

Heart Sounds International promotes worship predominantly in the non-western world by providing services in audio and video production, training and teaching, and song writing workshops.

Ongoing projects in Mongolia consist of building the nations first Christian recording studio, providing one of Mongolia’s first church plants with a recording of their worship team to be distributed across the country, and encouraging indigenous worship music through workshops, research, and song writing fellowships.

One of the most memorable experiences in Mongolia thus far was the time Erica spent with a group of elderly women.  She shared with them music about Christ written in traditional styles.  Upon hearing them, their countenance dramatically changed as they began talking and sharing with energy.  Oyon was one of these women.

Urban communities are growing strong and taking hold of their heritage and faith. They want to connect and reach out to their nomadic families in the countryside. Because music is a highly enjoyed part of their culture, we have been working with musician leaders in the cities to train and encourage both modern and traditional music with the message of Christ.

Meet Oyon...

Meet Oyon. She is an elderly woman who has spent her entire life on the Mongolian steppe. Her daily life is full of work and family as she labors to prepare food, drink, shelter, and household goods all from materials produced by the family’s prized sheep herd. All is done on a seasonal schedule as harsh conditions dictate her nomadic lifestyle. In the evenings, she enjoys stories and songs shared around cups of milk tea with her extended family. In her lifetime, she has seen the rise and fall of Communism in Mongolia. Now, young people are seeking freedom and progressive thought from the Western world, and her way of life is slowly eroding away.

When Oyon heard God’s Truth coupled with the traditional music of her homeland, she exclaimed, “This is a song I can dance to!” To her, the sound of the “old melody” that she sang as a child now brings a new message of hope. Christ is no longer something for the young and modern, He has a message for her. She is loved. She is valued. Her Savior has come.
