YWAM Davao City

YWAM’s overall vision is to train young adults for local and international mission. Over the last two years they have pioneered new training centers in two of the major cities in Mindanao.

In partnership with the local government, YWAM Davao is actively involved with programs for drug rehabilition, homeless and abused children, and mentoring youth.

A major emphasis for YWAM Davao is music and culture. The Philippines has a very artistic culture. They would like to use the arts as a medium to reach specific people groups ranging from the tribal people to the universities.

YWAM Davao has been invited to minister in China, Burma, Taiwan, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Meet Soriano...

Soriano is a Filippino in his early 20’s. He grew up on a rural island called Surigao but later moved to the city of Davao to join YWAM there. Soriano is involved in many types of ministry through YWAM, but he would love to to be involved in music. He plays guitar, drums, and sings. Soriano is very talented but lacks resources in equipment and education. The new music ministry we will be birthing with YWAM will provide these things for him and many others.

Our Ministry

Music is a universal form of expression in which cultures of the world capture the essence of their worldview.  In this way, music becomes a powerful way to communicate God’s promise in culturally relevant ways.

  • Music becomes worship when believers use it to assign value to God.
  • Music is a witness when it successfully communicates who God is to a nonbeliever.
  • Music opens the door for relationship when it creates a common ground for people to interact.
  • As musicians, we will equip people for worship, witness and discipleship by helping them develop music that communicates God in their culture.  In the process, we will be able to develop strong discipleship relationships with musicians in these different cultures as we help them develop their art.

Meet Bobong...

Bobong is a young musician from a Mindanao tribe. Growing up in his village, he has grown to love the sounds of the guitar, drums, and song styles of Western pop and rock. He also cherishes his identity as a tribal person with his unique language and the songs of his grandparents. Seeking to find his place in the two worlds, he receives guidance and encouragement on how to fuse his identity as a modern young adult and a member of a tribe with ancient traditions through music he composes at one of our songwriting workshops.
