Module Breakdown
The modules are as follows: Module 1 9 months This module introduces the Inductive approach to Bible study using the charting method and applying it to the books of Philemon, Galatians, Titus, Mark and Acts. This is the equivalent to the seminar phase of the residential school. Module 2 6 months Paul’s early letters. In this module the letters of Paul, written during his second and third missionary journey are studied. Also the Psalms are introduced, and incorporated into the schedule. 1 and 2 Thessalonians, 1 and 2 Corinthians and Romans. Psalms 1-20. Module 3 6 months Paul’s later letters and Luke’s Gospel. This module has a Gentile emphasis and covers the letters Paul wrote from prison, his letters to Timothy and the gospel authored by the Gentile, Luke. Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Timothy and Luke. Psalms 21-32. Module 4 6 months The General Letters and Matthew’s Gospel. This module deals with letters written to a predominantly Jewish audience and the Gospel that is most Jewish in emphasis. Hebrews, James, 1 and 2 Peter, Jude and Matthew. Psalms 33-44.
Module 5 6 months The Writings of John the Apostle. In this module we complete our New Testament studies by doing the last writing of the first century. John, 1, 2 and 3 John and Revelation. Psalms 45-54. This brings us to the end of the New Testament. Module 6 6 months Beginnings, the Exodus and Law This module introduces the student to the creation and Biblical world view, traces the beginning's of God's plan of salvation, the Exodus from Egypt, and the giving of the Law at Mount Sinai. Genesis, Exodus and Leviticus. Psalms 55-66. Module 7 6 months The Conquest of the Promised Land This modules covers the wilderness wanderings, the second giving of the Law, and the conquest and settlement of the Promised Land. Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges and Ruth. Psalms 67-78. Module 8 6 months The United Monarchy, the apostate Northern Kingdom This module includes the golden age of Israel under David and Solomon, its decline and the subsequent division of the kingdom. The prophets are introduced by Amos and Hosea who God sent to speak to the apostate Northern Kingdom. 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, Intro to Prophets Seminar, Amos and Hosea. Psalms 79-91. Module 9 6 months From eighth century Judah to its demise This module begins with Judah in the eighth century, its relationship with Assyria and the prophets sent by God to speak into that situation. It continues with the final years of the Kingdom of Judah up to the destruction of Jerusalem. Included, are the prophets who ministered during that turbulent time. Joel, Isaiah, Micah, Jonah & Nahum, Lamentations, Jeremiah, Habakkuk, Zephaniah and Obadiah. Psalms 92-113. Module 10 6 months
The Exile of Judah and the Post‑Exilic Period This module spans the time of Judah's exile in Babylon as found in the prophets Ezekiel and Daniel. The Chronicler sets the historical background for us. We then trace the return from Babylon and the reestablishment of worship in Jerusalem, as well as the prophets of the time. Ezekiel, Daniel, 1 & 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. Psalms 114-139. Module 11 6 months The Wisdom Books During this concluding module we learn about the nature of wisdom literature and its contribution to the scripture. Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon. Psalms 140-150. Core Course New Testament Completion Module Maximum time:variable We offer a module especially designed for graduates of the SBS Core Course. This enables students to study the books of the New Testament that were not covered in their Core Course. The books covered are tailored to the needs of each student.
