Opportunities to Serve  

 In any ministry the most important ingredient is the staff that God sends!

 These committed Christians come from all over the world and serve from a few weeks to several years; in many different areas. We are ALWAYS in need of new people and would love to have you serve with us.

"Formando Vidas" is a multi phase ministry and there are many opportunities for service. Of course language is a consideration and your ability with Spanish would determine where you could serve.

 

We each have our unique gifts and call from God and at "Formando Vidas" we try to place people where they can best use their God given abilities. However, that is not say that God won’t show you some new things. He will and we can help you in that process.

 

Working in our ministry is (at the same time) rewarding, heart breaking and never boring. You are helping to change and form lives. Of all that we teach these children nothing is more important than the love of the Father that we show and nothing more fulfilling than hugs that we give and receive.

We currently have a need for volunteers in the following areas:

Primary Caretaker(s) for 24hour child care: Function: to direct a 24 hour care house and be the long-term main caregiver(s). Essentially, this would be becoming “mom” or and “dad” to the children. Location: long term care in the transition house (El Oasis)  in the city . Requirements: experience working with children or youth, experience living in Colombian or another Latin culture, calling to children in need, flexibility in working conditions, enjoy life, devoted to God and His service, team player, committed to families. Minimum 2-year commitment required. Recommended Training: training with children at risk, specifically the Children At Risk (CAR) school offered by YWAM. Language: fluent Spanish. Starting Date: January 2010 or first semester  

Support person in 24hour child care: Function: to “live in” the house with the children, help with housework, cooking, recreation activities with the children, and other daily activities. Basically support the long term main caregiver. Location: 24hour care in the transition house in the city or with the young adults’ house in the city. Requirements: some experience with working with children or youth, knowledge of Colombian or Latin culture (or the willingness to learn), willingness to help wherever required, calling to children in need, flexibility in working conditions, enjoy life, devoted to God and His service, team player, committed to families. Language: minimum conversational Spanish. Starting Date: January 2010

Bus driver: Function: to drive the school bus and keep the bus in good working order (take it to the mechanic when needed) and to pick up donations as required. Location: live at the farm, travel to the city in the mornings returning late afternoon. Requirements: Valid Bus driving license (it is easy to convert it to a Colombian license). The bus seats 25 people. Some experience in driving a bus, good relationship to children, team player, patience, willingness to serve in other practical areas of the ministry during the day Language: minimum conversational Spanish. Starting Date: anytime

Drop in centre workers: Function to work with children from 0 to 12 years of age and young mothers with babies – in the drop in centre. Location: Near the center of Bogotá Requirements some experience with working with children or youth, willingness to learn, calling to children in need, flexible, enjoy life, devoted to God and His service, team player, can see the potential in a child, perseverance, know how to intercede, love children, fun, committed to families. Language: minimum conversational Spanish. Starting Date: January 2010.

Teacher: Function: to teach core subjects to children with behavioral and/or learning difficulties in our school. Location: Bogotá near the center of the city. Requirements: love and calling to teach and children, experience in teaching but not necessarily certificated, team player, patience, perseverance. Language: Fluent Spanish. Starting Date:  Flexible

Maintenance worker: Function: to carry out maintenance and minor repairs on buildings and equipment. Location: Farm and city Requirements: “Jack of all trades,” (especially helpful: if you have experience and passion with gardening or farming). Love kids, patience to teach, willing to work with basic supplies and tools. Love the Lord and find pleasure in fixing things. Language: conversational Spanish would be helpful, but not necessary if working alongside a bilingual staff member. Starting Date: JAnytime
