Happy Holidays!
Dear Family and Friends, Thank you to those who are praying and supporting us—you are a blessing to us, and we are grateful. We had a joyful summer as we were able to visit with many of you during our travels in Nebraska & South Dakota during July. As many of you may know, Hanna and I (Jeff) departed Kona on an outreach to South Africa in October, and there were many things that God had in mind for us. We felt blessed to be a blessing to so many there as we began teaching simple techniques for making water clean and safe to drink. Many feel helpless to make improvements thinking that the best solutions are only available with a big price tag. It was our joy to share with them many answers that could be implemented to make life-changing differences immediately.

South Africa
YWAM Muizenberg—At a Youth With a Mission base in Muizenberg, South Africa, we were part of a training time teaching how to make cement tanks to catch and store rain water. In addition to that, we equipped them in how to improve water quality in shallow, hand-dug wells with the goal of making them free from mosquito larvae and debris. Their outreach teams typically have young people that are helping to plant churches in northern South Africa as well as teach what they have learned in their School of Biblical Studies. Helping people with their physical needs is effective in opening doors to talking about spiritual needs. One man from Zimbabwe said “I’m going to make one of these pumps for my Mom when I see her tomorrow. She has needed this for so long and then there’s the rest of the village.” That simple testimony and many others just like it are fuel in my tank because I love to help and empower people.

Hanna in South Africa
A word from Hanna—My time in South Africa was more than I could have imagined. For some of the mornings that I was there I spent time with women who have HIV. Because they are not physically able to do many jobs Joylynn, our hostess, has a job-creation project that helps to support them. During a few of the mornings that we met and worked alongside the ladies, I would lead a small devotional for them. On the first morning I spoke from Romans 15:13 and the second out of Isaiah 41:10. We then shared together around our work table about how we were trusting God and how he gives strength and peace. Their testimonies were profound, as they live every day with HIV and raise their children. Another thing that I helped with was to give out clothes to the women in the slums. The testimonies that came out from that day were amazing. One woman said that she had been praying the day before with her aunt for some new clothes because she just had given birth to twins and wanted to look nice, and this was something that really showed her the love of God.

Hanna meets Nwabesa
One of Joylynn’s friends named Nwabesa lives in the slum with her two boys. The first day that I had met her she asked us to pray for her baby because he wasn’t eating. The reason she asked was she knew that when we prayed to our God, He would answer. The next week when we visited her she smiled and said that he was eating again. Then Joylynn asked her, why don’t you ask Jesus into your heart, especially when you have seen so many miracles? She told us that in that area there are so many religions that say they are true that she doesn’t know who to believe. A week after my Dad and I returned home, Joylynn emailed us and said that Nwabesa is now a Christian!!! Thank you for supporting me in this outreach. God is amazing!!
