A DTS is part of Youth With a Mission and the University of the Nations. For more information on the UofN click here.

Mbabazi Margaret: I grew up not accepting myself, thinking that I am a failure in all things, because when I was growing, my family couldn’t provide for my needs, because of that whatever I could try to do, could not succeed. I thought all I was passing through, God had caused them. I felt I’m nothing. But through the DTS, I came to know who God is; His will on my life, and this understanding changed my life. And now I am living my destiny. This brings joy to my heart every day.

Munyurangabo Noel: ‘For a long time l did not want to be known as a Hutu, given what my fellow Hutus did to the Tutsis. However, during my DTS l was helped to accept myself the way God accepts me and now l am free’.(The Rwandan DTS is special when it comes to understanding and embracing relationships and reconciliation)

Discipleship Training School

A DTS is a great time to develop your relationship with God and to understand God’s will and plan for your life. A DTS anywhere in the world, is a weapon in the hand of God to change lives. It will help you to become a true disciple of Jesus and to be more like Jesus in your daily life and relationships. It will help you to develop the right Biblical view towards man, God and the world.

The DTS  is a six months training course. The school is comprised of three months of lectures with different speakers and topics every week. Topics include: Hearing God’s voice, Forgiveness, Sin and Repentance, Discipleship, Biblical world View, Missions and Evangelism and much more!

After the lecture phase follows a three months out reach, where you will be involved in different kinds of ministries so you can put in practice what you’ve learnt. Examples of ministries are evangelism, seminars, practical work, helping poor people, working with street children, people affected by HIV/Aids and more. Possible outreach locations are in Burundi, Uganda, Congo, Tanzania and Sudan.

DTS is for committed Christians who want to be equipped to know God and how to make him known. If you want to make a difference in this world, and obey Jesus’ command of making disciples, this training is made for you!

Rwanda is a truly unique location to follow your DTS. It is in the heart of Africa, surrounded by hills and friendly people. The history of Rwanda makes it a special time where we will hear testimonies of God's goodness and healing for this nations. Rwanda has something to offer to the world. Come and discover!

Why is Discipleship needed?

Jesus said, ‘Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever l have commanded you: and lo I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Matt. 28:19-20

The first missionaries came to Rwanda towards the end of the 18th century. They taught the gospel, and introduced new ways of living to the Rwandese. Although in general most people embraced the teaching of the church (especially Roman Catholicism), many maintained their animistic/spiritist world-view. The church did not emphasize much on teaching the Biblical truth that sets people free and transforms society. As a result, the church in Rwanda became quite nominal, devoid of the transforming power of the gospel. Many people did not develop the right Biblical view towards fellow man, as well as towards God. Compelling evidence of this is the fact that in 1994 a genocide took place in the country, which hundreds of thousands of people took part in, in a country that is said to be about 85% Christian. This is a clear evidence that the nation has been evangelised, but not discipled enough.

"The Church that does not disciple the nation, will be discipled by the nation"-Darrow Miller-

This alone demonstrates that there is an enormous need for discipleship in the Rwandan church. We believe our DTSs are a valuable way of contributing towards meeting this need. The Youth With A Mission DTS whether here or elsewhere in the world, is a weapon in the hand of God to change lives. The following testimonies are some of the evidence of this truth.

Munyurangabo Noweli: ‘For a long time l did not want to be known as a Hutu, given what my fellow Hutus did to the Tutsis. However, during my DTS l was helped to accept myself the way God accepts me and now l am free’.(The Rwandan DTS is special when it comes to understanding and embracing relationships and reconciliation)

Uwizeye Joyeuse (Joyce): ‘I lost the biggest number of my family during the genocide. My parents, brothers and sisters, many of which we will never know where they were burried. I carried this bitterness for a long time, but the Lord started working in my life during my DTS and thereafter. I was able to forgive and now l am free.’
