Since 2007, YWAM Rwanda has been reaching out to Bukora and Kiyanzi, villages in the S.E. of Rwanda. The people who live there are returnees from Tanzania. They used to be cattle keepers, but when they had to return to Rwanda the Rwandan government gave them plots of land for agriculture. The people have a very simple lifestyle; there is no electricity in the villages and most of the people do not have furniture, but sit on mats. There are no schools and no shops in both villages. The closest medical centre and the local market are about half an hour walk distance from Bukora. For several years now we have been sending outreach teams to this area. In 2008 YWAM was able to buy a small house to work from. Currently we have a literacy program for adults in Bukora, as well as in Kiyanzi. One of our staff stays in Bukora regularly to teach the people writing, reading and mathematics. Some of his students are now able to read their bible. Besides that he is reaching out to the children and youths of Bukora through sports, games, songs and prayer. YWAM is also helping Christians in Kiyanzi to build their church by providing labour (when we have teams) and by donating finances. Our Vision - Have a YWAM team in Bukora permanently. - Continue the literacy program and further educate the adults, e.g. in the area of health care. - Establish a Pre-school in Bukora in order to provide quality education for young children. - Provide Discipleship Training and Vocational Training.
