Who are we?
In response to the Biblical mandate to bring hope to the hopeless, and God’s love to all people, YWAM Rwanda exists to disciple and equip people from all nations to go to all nations. In partnership with, or as a catalyst to, the church, we aim to imitate and facilitate holistic development programmes, so that - The socio-economic status of the underprivileged is significantly improved.
- Positive child development and welfare is promoted.
- Rwandan children are equipped, envisioned and enabled to positively impact their communities, and other nations.
YWAM Rwanda currently has one base, on the edge of the capital city, Kigali. We have a desire to see other bases opened throughout the country in God’s timing.

All volunteers
YWAM is a large multi-denominational organization based in most of the countries in the world, but not one YWAMer is paid. ALL are volunteers, who raise their own support from family members, friends, churches and others who believe in the calling God has put on individuals lives and want to support them in that. YWAMers in Rwanda, and indeed in many African countries, find it particularly difficult to raise the support they need to be volunteers within YWAM, relying only on God for their needs. The main problem is that here in Rwanda there’s a mentality that missionaries should come from outside the country, not from within. As a result, those that have Christians in their family, and people in the churches they attend, simply are not able to truly grasp the value and beauty in Rwandese volunteering to help others within their own communities, and even go out to other countries to bless others. Many think they are crazy for not seeking a paying job. Few give them moral, prayerful or financial support.

Rwandese YWAMers ....
This mentality is something the leadership of YWAM Rwanda have been trying to break through for many years, and will continue to do so. It will be broken, in the name of Jesus, but it will take time. Rwanda has been reliant on outside aid and help for so much of it’s history, contemplating an alternative, growth from within without outside help, is a hard concept to understand, let alone embrace. It hinders YWAM growing in Rwanda as fast as in more developed, richer, countries. This is truly tragic because there are plenty of young people wanting to go into full-time ministry here in Rwanda.

....need support!
 |
In the meantime of trying to break this mentality, all of the Rwandese YWAMers in Rwanda are short of support - prayerful, financial, moral and practical. Some of them have absolutely no income at all, and hardly anyone outside of YWAM praying for them and their ministry and giving them moral support. Perhaps as you’re reading this you feel led to read about what our staff are doing, and would prayerfully consider supporting one or more of them. On-going prayer is by far the most valuable and important support someone can give to a YWAMer, in addition to moral, practical and financial support. But our staff need all of this support. If you’re interested, please get in touch with them, for they would love to hear from you, or us at info@ywamrwanda.com. If you’re interested in investing in a small business that would provide an ongoing income for a YWAMer here in Rwanda that wouldn’t use up their time that has been set aside for ministry, please get in touch with us on the same email as above. Together we can build God's Kingdom. So let'us unite. Thank you and God bless you.

History
In response to the war and genocide in 1994, that resulted in the murder of over 1,000,000 people, and clearly hearing the call of God on their lives to return to their home country, Method and Mary Kamanzi came to Kigali, Rwanda’s capital, in December 1994. Rwanda is populated by two major tribes, the Hutu and the Tutsi, beside the Batwa. Ethnic hatred, distrust, and a desire to dominate each other caused inter-tribal conflicts and tension that spiralled out of control, culminating in Hutu extremists trying to eliminate all Tutsis and Hutu moderates by massacre. YWAM Rwanda started in response to the suffering that resulted from the genocide and ensuing war.
